VETERINARIANS, LIKE YOU, CAN
HELP US SAVE MORE DOGS AND CATS.

A veterinarian’s patients can’t speak to tell them how they are feeling. You need to make diagnoses based on what you know about the pet, the observations (or lack of) by the pet parent, and your hands-on examination. You have a special sixth sense that can tune-in to a dog or cat to determine how they are feeling and what the pet needs to get well. You keep dogs and cats safe and healthy, and treat those who aren’t. You help save lives. And we need veterinarians like you as partners. Here’s why:

WHY IS THIS SO IMPORTANT TO US?

Brenda Marks, our Founder, was concerned about the future of her 3- yr old poodle if something should happen to her and she could no longer take care of her fur baby. She had no one who would adopt her dog in her absence. Brenda hired an attorney to prepare a Pet Trust to solve this problem and then realized two things:
1. She still had no one to take care of her poodle even though she had a Pet Trust.
2. The Pet Trust gave very few instructions on how she wanted her dog cared for.

Even though it stated to walk her dog 3x a day, it didn’t say to keep her in the shade because the hot concrete hurt the dog’s feet. It didn’t say that she should only have pink accessories. And, it didn’t say that Sunday was a special day because she got scrambled eggs for breakfast.

These detailed pet care directions were important to Brenda because it was the lifestyle her dog was accustomed to. So, Brenda decided, in tribute to her husband, Edwin, to start the Edwin D Marks Animal Foundation. Our mission is to educate people about Pet Trusts and how to prepare them.

The Foundation grew. In addition to teaching people about Pet Trusts, Brenda wanted to actually help people prepare and implement Pet Trusts. Regulations made it difficult to do this within the Foundation so Guardian Pet Trust, a public charity, was founded by Brenda to continue the work of the Foundation.

Our mission is to furnish Pet Trust-related services to passionate pet people and their Estate Planners and Attorneys. In case the Pet Owner gets sick, injured, or dies, our goal is to make sure the Pet Owner has prepared a well-designed and comprehensive Pet Trust that outlines all the details needed for the care of their beloved pet in their new home… in sickness and in health.

That’s where you come in!

VETERINARIAN SERVICES AND CARE ACCORDING TO PET TRUSTS

Guardian Pet Trust has developed a process of preparing Pet Trusts with Pet Trust Care Plans that are very detailed. The Care Plan gives instructions for the daily care of the pet that maintains its current lifestyle. It also clearly states the owner’s wishes for the medical care of their pet and end-of-life decisions.

GPT’s process includes a Pet Trust Care Team. We feel that the Veterinarian is a valuable member of each animal’s Care Team, especially when an animal’s health changes. Some medical situations may also arise that are not covered in the Trust and the input and advice of the Pet Trust Veterinarian is paramount to the well-being of the Pet Trust Pet.

The Pet Owner’s wishes should be carried out when they are part of the written Trust or Care Plan. The Pet Trust Veterinarian will be provided with a copy of the owner’s instructions. The Foster and Caretaker also know the owner’s choices so working together will be easy. For those situations not covered, your expertise is needed in determining the course of treatment. You know the animal best of all.

WHY WE NEED A PARTNERSHIP WITH YOU

Consistency of health care is very important for Pet Trust Pets. Our pets are separated from their owners and may be cared for by a Foster for a short period of time. The Foster helps the animal adjust to life without its owner before it is rehomed. The Foster also does an evaluation to see if the animal needs any medical or behavioral interventions. Once the pet is considered ready, it is moved to its forever home with a Caretaker. Having the same Veterinarian is an important part of our process.

Veterinarians for Pet Trusts help protect the Pet Trust Pets. As part of the charity’s policies, each Pet Trust Pet is required to have two wellness exams each year. By seeing the same Pet Trust Veterinarian, you get to know the animal and will be more knowledgeable about its care. You will also be able to identify if the animal is not being cared for properly or is being mistreated. A stranger or different Veterinarian might not pick this up.

We need partners we can count on. Joining forces with you makes us both stronger. You expand on your reputation by being involved with our charity and animals with Pet Trusts by providing veterinarian services. You know your patients best and your leadership is needed to help make some difficult medical decisions.

What’s the catch?

It’s really quite simple. We ask three things of our Pet Trust Veterinarian partners:

1. You have to respect the wishes of the Pet Owner who prepared the Pet Trust. We will provide you with a copy of the medical instructions for the Pet Trust Pet so you know their intentions. Your veterinarian services should align with the instructions.
2. Payment will be made from the Trust. This means, unless the Trustee furnishes a credit card to the Foster or Caretaker, the bill for your veterinarian services has to be sent to the Trustee of the Pet Trust. There’s money in the account. When they get your bill, they’ll pay it.
3. Membership in the Charity is necessary for everyone involved with Pet Trust Pets.

What’s in it for you?

Notoriety as a Pet Trust Veterinarian

An increase in the number of patients you treat

An affiliation with a 501(c)3 Charity that wants to protect the future of our pets by promoting the use of Pet Trusts

You are leading a team to help them to make healthcare decisions in the best interest of a pet when its owner is not able to make those decisions

The satisfaction of knowing your involvement will help protect a lot of dogs and cats from mistreatment, and being placed in a shelter where they would, most likely, be euthanized!

You’ll have access to our website’s Pet Portals to gain a better understanding of your patient, if needed, when providing veterinarian services and making tough decisions.

When you join us, we will post your picture on our website as a Pet Trust Veterinarian, with your contact information, and a link to your website (free advertising)
